Day 4 -Pasikuda > Maduru Oya

Day 4 - Road Trip Sri Lanka - Mili's Blog

Pasikuda > Maduru Oya National Wilf Life park > Pimbureththewa Mahaweli Circuit Banglow.

Today morning after tea we started our journey again. When we about to leave from Ashram we saw there were lot of children coming to Ashram & gather in a small hut like place. Its bit of like cabana. We asked about this from Rahul, they are running a charity for poor children every Sunday so they can teach & educate them. What a lovely thing. So we were lucky to donated some money to that charity hopefully it will help in someway..

Now the journey started again coming back into the country again. This was sort of towards to the middle of the country. The next stop will be Maduru Oya National park for safari. The road to the Maduru oya national park was not that great. It's very rural. Some roads are good. We were using google maps. Sometimes you need some human assistance. After we left from passikuda, after about 2 hour drive we stopped at a place to get some information for the route. There was an old lady basically she was waiting for a public bus for hours to go to see her daughter. She said buses are running only few times a day. Well we gave her a lift & she was very pleased & thanked with all the god blessings for us for the help.

After passing few Army regiments, again very beautiful area & there are peacocks along the roads every where. This is a very un touched tourists areas in Sri Lanka. The plan was to arrive about 0300 pm. I think we arrived there about 4pm. After speaking to the gate keeper realised that they don't have safari jeeps on site instead we will need to arrange in advanced. We got some contact details about a safari jeep from the gate keeper & called the guy & arranged it for next day early morning Safari. All good.. at least.

On the way out from the park BOOM! there is a giant elephant is on the road! He just having its food.. talking his time. This is just a an elephant. There are saying the an elephant can be is quite rough, basically highly likely can attack any one.
As soon as we see him our driver stopped the Van & swiched off the engine. Every one was dead quite. Suddenly he moved to a bit side of the road. we are still waiting. Well they can charge at anytime! Waited about 5 minutes & there you comes the rescure, a safari jeep.
They have lot of experince on those situations. But the elephant is so close to the edge of the road so he also stopped. After few monutes he actually moved further away from the road, at that second the safari jeep started to go & we followed it & passed
quickly as much as possible. As soon as we passed the elephant he moved further in to the woods. But we could clearly see he is watching us throught the trees... This was a great experince for all of us. phew!

Lots of peacocks along the road to Maduru Oya wild life park

After we came to our next stay,  Maduru Oya Circuit Banglow, Pimbureththewa.  It is in a very beautiful location. Ideal place to relax. Its located in front of Pimbureththewa lake. There is a person who look after the banglow & there was another matured person to cook us dinner. We had vegetable noodles & chicken curry for our dinner.

Photographer William Burrard-Lucas was in Sri lanka for a 10 day visit sponsored by Cinnoman Nature Trails. Will has spent the past ten days photographing local wildlife. He used the Beetle Cam on their first visit to Minneriya for the elephant gathering. He also visited other wild life parks such as Yala and Wilpattu.

It was in 2009 that the 30-year-old wildlife photographer set about building Beetle camera -allowing him to take unprecedented close-up shots- with his brother Matthew. A Physics graduate from Imperial College, London, Will had no problems working out the technicalities but took a gamble not knowing whether it would work in the wild.

There is a beautifull picture he has taken, large bull elephants engaged in an almighty battle at Minneriya National Park Sri Lanka.
